Successful exclusive distribution partnership continues

MTC, the material supply division of Azuria Water Solutions, and Raedlinger Primus Line, manufacturer of the trenchless pipe rehabilitation system Primus Line® Rehab, continue their successful relationship. Three years ago, the two companies entered into an agreement that made MTC the exclusive distributor of Primus Line rehabilitation and bypass products for water applications in the United States and Canada. This agreement has now been extended for three more years.

The aim of the exclusive distribution agreement signed in 2022 was to minimize delivery times in the United States and Canada, thus reducing lead times for planned or emergency rehabilitation projects. The intended combination of MTC’s technical sales expertise and Raedlinger Primus Line’s experience in pressure pipe manufacturing has paid off. And will therefore be continued.

John Moody, Director of Sales for North America at Raedlinger Primus Line states: “Our partnership with MTC has been immensely beneficial to the North American market. Leveraging their unique network of trenchless experts and professional engineers, we are able to deliver our technology as an effective solution to the increasing awareness among pressure pipe network owners and operators, helping to address critical challenges.”

“We are proud to offer the Primus Line® system to our growing installer base in North America and appreciate the trust our partner, Raedlinger Primus Line, placed in us to do so. The extension is a testament to the success of our working relationship to this point and the tremendous future we see together,” adds Mark Wetzel, Vice President of MTC.

„By continuing as the exclusive distributor, we are delivering the only FFRP (Flexible Fabric-Reinforced Pipe) solution to the pressure pipe market while creating value for installers through its versatility and efficiency of installation. There is simply no technology equal to Primus Line® currently in terms of quality, certifications, test data, and proven project success.“

Mark Wetzel | Vice President of MTC

Since both companies have Canadian subsidiaries, customers and installation partners located there can place their orders locally and can be delivered from Europe. Canadian customers will thus profit from direct transportation and avoid any imposed US import tariffs.

Highlight projects realized during the collaboration up to now

High-pressure transmission line under the West Armory Way in Seattle, WA

A 12-inch high-pressure Primus Liner was used to rehabilitate the 1,785-foot concrete mortar potable water transmission line under West Armory Way. The original line consists of 1,000 linear feet of 20-inch pipe and 875 linear feet of 16-inch pipe. It has one 45-degree and several 22-degree bends and an operating pressure of 250 psi. The pipeline runs directly under and across a busy railroad which could not be disturbed. The pipeline access points were in an urban area with an electric vehicle charging station and a residential area in the downstream pit, requiring a very low profile for access and rehabilitation staging. Inserting the liner took only 50 minutes and the total installation time was two days.

Sewer force main under an active bike path in Colchester, CT

In this case, the operators were looking for a preferably trenchless solution to rehabilitate the 16-inch, 1,600-foot section of the sewer force main: It is located in an underground viaduct and old railroad ties made excavation difficult and expensive. In addition, the cement-lined ductile iron pipe runs under an active bike path. The operators finally selected Primus Line® Rehab for its ability to install the required section in a single pull and with only a small pit at each end. This reduced the environmental impact and installation time which could be completed in one day.

11,000 feet of 6-inch pipeline rehabilitated in the Grand Canyon

In the fall of 2023, the National Park Service was faced with leaks from pressurized water pipelines in a reclamation area of the Grand Canyon. The reclaimed water is essential to local wildlife and critical tourism destinations, including restaurants and hotels in and around the park. With initial information in hand, Insituform Technologies suggested installing cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) to rehabilitate the critical water lines.

However, following site visits, significant challenges – including terrain and the presence of wildlife – were apparent. The rough terrain presented multiple access issues for CIPP equipment, and the client needed the project to be completed on an accelerated timeline.

With more information in hand, the team determined that Primus Line® was the best approach with its limited access requirements, smaller footprint, and shorter installation time.

In just 2 weeks, the teams successfully installed 5,500 linear feet of 6” diameter and 800 linear feet of 8” Primus Liner. The finished pipe passed key pressure tests, reclaimed water line leaks were eliminated, disruptions at the park were minimal; in fact, the rehabilitation project timeline was reduced by 50% versus the original project plan.

Rehabilitation of 34,000 feet of 20-inch AC groundwater pipe

This project involved the rehabilitation of approximately 34,000 feet of 20-inch asbestos-cement pipe. This pipe transports groundwater from a pumping station to a water treatment plant serving a city of 300,000 people. Primus Line® Rehab’s 20-inch medium-pressure liner was installed in 17 sections ranging in length from 295 to 3,600 feet. The pipe owner defined the time frame, stipulating that every section had to be installed within a maximum of three days. The project was complex due to the pressure of restoring the water supply.
